This review is from: Talon, Come Fly with Me (Kindle Edition)
As Yoda says “Judge me by my size, do you?” — Matica is a 9 year old girl with the body of a 2 year old. Her unique handicap causes her to be shunned in her Peruvian village, feared and mistrusted.
The story has many aspects of magical realism. Matica can communicate with condors. Her small size allows her to fly on the backs of these enormous birds. The evocative descriptions of flying are remarkable and give the reader a breathtaking, you-are-there feeling.
The themes of this book revolve around the transformative power of love, the journey of self-acceptance, and how the natural world brings us closer to each other.
Children can view this as a grand adventure novel, while adults are rewarded with a deeper appreciation of the symbolism and themes. A beautifully written book- highly recommended!
